CRNA Program Summary

Are you concerned that St Elizabeth Health Center and Youngstown State University CRNA Program won’t give you the specific experiences or training you need to be a successful CRNA? Learn what standards CRNA Programs must meet in order to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA).

This CRNA program (as well as all others that are accredited by the COA) prepares you to take the CCNA certification exam at the conclusion of the program, allowing you to become a CRNA.

The DNP in Nurse Anesthesia is a cooperative program between Youngstown State University and St Elizabeth Health Center School for Nurse Anesthetists, Inc.

All courses are taught by YSU Graduate Faculty. Humility of Mary Health Partners supports the program by providing clinical and other resources at St Elizabeth Health Center.

Students gain experience in the use of many anesthetic agents and Staff Anesthesiologists from Bel-Park Anesthesia Associates, Inc.

CRNA Program Requirements

Required Bachelor Degree
Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an institution of higher education that is fully accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting agency and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and/or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)

RN
Current RN license in the United States

Critical Care
Have a minimum of one year experience in an adult critical care area. A minimum of two years experience is preferred.

Examples of critical care units may include but are not limited to:

  • Surgical ICU
  • Cardiothoracic ICU
  • Coronary ICU
  • Medical ICU

Those who have experiences in other areas may be considered provided they can demonstrate competence in managing unstable patients, invasive monitoring, ventilators, and critical care pharmacology.

GPA/QPA:
Minimum GPA of 3.0. Minimum GPA science 3.0.

Minimum GRE scores:
Required if GPA less than 3.5

Certification: 

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • CCRN (Required by application deadline)

Undergraduate Course Prerequisites

Statistics, undergraduate with a grade “B” or higher
